Skilling QLD for Work

New Courses Start January 2020

Better Together is proud to be part of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, which helps eligible Queenslanders develop skills, gain qualifications and provide direct assistance to enter and stay in the workforce.

The initiative offers programs that deliver training to improve skills and employment opportunities. The programs focus on supporting young people (including those in and transitioning from out-of-home care), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disabilities, mature-age job seekers, women re-entering the workforce, veterans and ex-service personnel and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Better Together’s Skilling Queensland for Work program is a state award-winning training program. Winning the “Community Initiative Training award” in 2017 is an honour that we’re extremely proud of.

Better Together offers two programs under the Initiative:

Better Outcomes: Participants to undertake a Certificate II in Retail and Cafe Operations.

Better Pathways: Participants to undertake a Certificate III in Individual Support

Both programs offer professional development workshops that address vital job-ready skills. Some of the training covered includes:

  • Resume building and cover letter writing
  • Accessing the hidden job market
  • Tips and tricks of applying for jobs online
  • Interview techniques (including body language)
  • Financial literacy
  • Building resilience
  • How to keep your job
  • How to cope with anxiety in the workplace
  • How to work effectively with different personality types

The program also supports the participants in addressing any personal issues and barriers which may have impacted on them finding employment in the past such as housing issues, paperwork anxiety, lack of confidence etc.

Better Together’s goal is to empower unemployed community members with a qualification and in doing so, offer local businesses highly skilled employees who are ready to work.  We always welcome local businesses who would like to become vocational placement hosts.  Contact us now to discuss your eligibility.
